Reher Residence
San Francisco [in progress]
Located on the outskirts of the Castro Neighborhood in San Francisco on a 45 degree slope, 50'x50' lot, the Reher residence has bay views to the east and neighborhood views to the south. Besides an obvious desire to maintain views and a need to maximize a semi-urban site, the owner requested that the two units 'x|y' be mirrors of each other. The request of mirroring prompted questions of individuality between the owner/client of unit x, and the speculative buyer of unit y, resulting in subtle differences between each half. x|y reads as a pair of cubes firmly adhered to the steep site via a concrete base. Attached to the cubes are light appendages that give each unit an individuality through specialized view windows and arrangement of materials.
