A new, ground-up construction this two unit residence is a modern interpretation of a multi-unit residence built on a typical long, narrow San Francisco site. The building is divided into two distinctly clad volumes, one with living spaces, one with service and circulation spaces. Steel moment frames allow uninterrupted interior spaces and large openings on the end facades, bringing light deep into the building. Dramatic steel stairs and catwalks connect the multiple levels while exterior tarraces animate the triple height, light filled living space. Structure, materials and details are boldly expressed. The interior finishes and details accentuate the distinctive volumes. The living volume includes bamboo flooring, plaster finishes, large sliding glass doors, and custom wood pivot doors. A small, top level “courtyard” brings outside in and creates space for a hot tub.
