Playgroup Pre-School

Architecture

Commercial
San Francisco, California

A pre-school started in the home of Ann Getty for her grandchildren over twenty years needed a larger, more formal presence. Working with the Presidio Trust, the adaptive re-use of two historic San Francisco Presidio structures were gutted and reconfigured to provide a new home surrounded by trees and nature.

A well-established pre-school needed to find new space to provide for its’ expanding enrollment and wanted to custom design their new “home”. The twin historic structures in San Francisco’s Presidio became the ideal location. As Zack | de Vito’s second pre-school project in the Presidio (Lone Mountain Children’s Center) we were tasked with gutting and preserving the historic structures, and upgrading and modernizing for its’ new use. It was a fine balance between old, new and fun. An exterior bridge element connects the two structures creating a distinct entry with new floor to ceiling glazing and interior spaces re-imagined with natural light and defined spaces for learning and playing.
