Russian Hill Pied-à-Terre

Architecture

Custom Single-Family Residence
San Francisco, California

A sophisticated pied-à-terre designed to feature the owners’ art collection, and to take in breathtaking views of the San Francisco Bay and downtown.

This high-rise apartment—designed as a part-time residence for an art-collecting couple with grown children—enjoys stunning panoramic views of San Francisco, including both the Golden Gate and Bay bridges, and downtown.

A complete gut-and-remodel, the main living areas were placed around the perimeter of the floor to access views and light, while an inner ‘cube’ containing services and entertaining amenities anchors and connects the whole. The highly refined, limited material and color palette was used strategically to define and clarify spaces, and extensive custom cabinetry throughout provides hidden storage and delineates the transitions between spaces.
